Easy win:
Prioritize your content consumption
There will always be more content than you can consume. Therefore, it is essential to focus on your most important topic areas and reliable, high-quality sources.
Task 1: What topics are of interest to you? What do you want to learn more about or stay current with? Define and prioritize these topics.
Here is my topic priority graph. I spend more time and engage more deeply with my highest-priority topics, while I spend less time and engage less deeply with topics I’m still interested in but have lower priorities.
Task 2: Define who and what you want to follow for each topic area.
In this age of AI-generated content and algorithmic feeds, I recommend intentionally following trusted sources. The content options are endless: You can follow folks on social media (x, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, LinkedIn), YouTube, Substack, Medium, or individually produced blogs and podcasts. Assess how much you can feasibly follow and consume.
Task 3: Spend 15-20 minutes reading/listening/viewing content from your chosen sources each day.
Set aside a regular time of day to consume content. Evaluate what you would like to consume versus the time you realistically have available. Can you add more time daily? Do you need to scale back the sources you follow?
Bonus: Take notes on what you are consuming in your notes system. If you don’t yet have a note system, see Selecting a notes system.
